La Miséreuse accroupie

La Miséreuse Accroupie, meaning “The Crouching Beggar” is quite literally what Picasso portrayed in this painting. Depicted is a woman wrapped in heavy blue and blue-green layers. Her expression is solemn: her gaze downward and her eyes are closed. Aside from her face, the woman’s body is completely covered, symbolizing how closed-off to the outside world and guarded she is. She is a beggar: impoverished and isolated, keeping to herself.
