Le Moulin de la Galette

In 1900 at just 19 years old, Picasso travelled from Barcelona to Paris for the first time, where he was drawn in by the Bohemian lifestyle of Montmartre with its artists, poets, and dancers. Here, Picasso highlights the lustful glamour of this famous dance hall and his own fascination with Paris night life in the Post-Impressionist style. Picasso was influenced by other artists of the time who were similarly drawn to painting the debauchery, such as Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. In Le Moulin de la Galette, Picasso represents the fashionable scene through vibrant colors as an outsider as he takes in the Parisian nightlife for the first time.
