The Blue Room

In this painting, Picasso’s Blue Period is clearly being fully developed. The cool hues combined with the strong use of natural light draw the viewer into the work. Depicted is a young, idealized woman bathing in a tub in what we can assume is her bedroom.; a private and intimate yet voyeuristic portrayal. Although the painting is not as precise or sharp as Picasso’s other works, the subject and scene are still identifiable. Picasso has chosen to show two typical motifs: the woman's figure and a small studio background, both of which are more common during his Blue Period.
