Woman Ironing

Woman Ironing was completed during Picasso’s pivotal Blue Period (1901–04), demonstrating the sensitivity, skill, and emotion with which the artist conveyed in his depictions of the working poor. The painting’s shades of whites and blue-grays evokes empathy for the hard, labor-intensive daily life of the working class: a life of relative poverty Picasso experienced himself during his first years in Paris, when the work was painted.
